Clown = No We're not going to lie. Clowns give us the heebie-jeebies. There's something about their oversized shoes and rainbow attire, along with their crazy large painted facial features that just give us the willies. Ever since we've been kids, we've avoided circus clowns. There is an exception, however. We're okay with Pierrot Clowns. What's that you ask? Well, we will gladly tell you. Pierrot clowns come from the traditional theater that is Commedia dell'arte. We're talking acting troupes in Europe from the 16th-18th centuries. These theatrical troupes used witty words and pantomime to put on plays and sketches. Each character had a highly stylized costume so you could tell exactly who they were, and Pierrot clowns? Well, they were the resident sad and trusting clown. That's right. No scary huge smiles or ridiculous tricks with cars and squirting flowers. Only a sad guy, down on his luck. Fun Details If you're like us, and more fond of the traditional Pierrot clown, then you will probably appreciate our Women's Vintage Pierrot Clown Costume. This 100 percent polyester costume. The white shirt has mesh ruffles attached and a fastener at the back of the collar and elastic around the neckline and cuffs. The collar has two layers of a semi-sheer mesh edged in black. The shorts are black with zipper and fly in front, and suspenders are attached with decorative buttons. The black suspenders also attach to the shoulders of the shirt. The black-and-white striped leggings have an elastic waistband. The outfit even comes with a cone-shaped hat with clips to fasten to hair, along with 2-inch wide shoe pom poms. Pierrot = Go See? The Pierrot clown is the tragic innocent, trying to win the hearts of the audience. That's why we love them so much. That's right: no strange jokes and ridiculous colors, only some old-time artist here.
