You can't get there by ferry or car so paddle a kayak! Join REI for an exciting two-day introduction to kayak camping at Hope Island State Park. Situated in the southern heart of the Salish Sea Hope Island State Park is a jewel of undeveloped forest with a small farm and orchard. Bald eagles great blue herons seals semi-tame deer and an abundance of sea life make for an amazing paddle and camping experience. Accessible only by water along four miles of pristine waterways it is a terrific location to experience kayak camping. This class is ideal for those looking to try multi-day kayak touring or anyone looking for a new camping adventure-with the added benefit of the boat carrying the weight of your gear! We'll teach you about packing and loading camping gear into kayaks and how to set up an eco-conscious camp in a marine environment. Group camp gear including tents and camp kitchen are provided. Bring your own sleeping system and personal gear. Conditions encountered will be salt water with tides mild current and pebble and sand beaches. Pre-requisite: previous kayaking experience necessary (Introduction to Kayak Touring or equivalent skills).
