Optimized for its new 12-speed road group, the Campagnolo Record 12 Front Derailleur is identical in function to its Super Record brethren with the main difference being less exotic material utilization. We'd like to point out that this leads to a very modest weight gain of around 2-grams and we'd gladly take the money saved and apply it towards something that's bound to help us go a little faster like some race entries or maybe paying for some coaching. Like we've experienced on previous versions, it still enjoys the refined cable pull ratio that when paired with the new controls provides excellent micro-adjustments of the derailleur's position. This trim feature allows you to access all 24 gear combinations without chain rub and is something that we've come to appreciate on electronic setups, so it's refreshing to see it on a mechanical version. This derailleur also gets a longer pulling arm where the cable anchors for greater leverage, requiring less force to initiate an upshift. The inner cage is also modified to work better with the narrower 12-speed chain and chainrings and its construction in aluminum, versus the Super Record's hybrid alloy/carbon mix, still keeps the weight low as well as providing silent shifting without losing any stiffness needed for crispness. The derailleur also has two positions in which to affix the cable. With some internally routed frames, the front shifting cable comes out really close to the derailleur so much so that it can rub against it. This dual position setup prevents this and increases frame compatibility. Finally, the derailleur is rated to clear 32mm tires, ideal with more riders choosing wider rubber these days. The Campagnolo Record 12 Front Derailleur is only compatible at this time with 12-speed Campagnolo Super Record and Record drivetrains.
